The pope says there is no such thing as a holy war but that depends on what religion you are talking about. Its definitely a thing in Islam.
"Since the attacks of September 11, 2001, there have been over 50,000 deadly terrorist acts committed in the name of Islam. Although the pope did not mention Islam by name, his sentiments echo what his predecessor, Pope Francis, who frequently argued that Islamist violence is a distortion or a 'perversion' of Islam rather than an expression of its authentic teachings, which he associated with peace. Yet the immediate impression after reading Islamic texts, along with their juridical interpretation under sharia — Islamic law — suggests otherwise. As the late Dr. Nabeel Qureshi, a convert from Islam to Christianity, explained, when growing up as a Muslim in Pakistan, he and many others falsely believed Islam to be a peaceful religion. 'It wasn’t until I started reading the sources for myself — the Quran and the hadiths — that I saw the sources showed that Islam at its historical core was violent.'"
